As discussions for the Fiscal Year 2025 budget begin in earnest, State Senator Sally Turner (R-Beason) has been appointed to serve on the Senate Republicans’ Budget Negotiation Team.
“As an experienced local government leader, Sen. Turner brings a valued perspective on the unique needs of local communities to the budget-making process,” said Illinois Senate Republican Leader John Curran (R-Downers Grove). “She will be a strong voice for initiatives that prioritize Illinois families when helping to craft this year’s spending plan.”
Turner will join State Senators Don DeWitte (R-St. Charles), Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet), and Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) in bipartisan discussions of priorities that will drive spending for the fiscal year that begins on July 1, 2024.
“I am honored to be chosen to be a part of our Caucus’ budget negotiation team and look forward to advocating on behalf of the people of Central Illinois as we discuss state spending priorities,” said Sen. Turner. “It’s no secret that with the exhaustion of federal relief funds and lower projected revenues, this year’s budget negotiation process will result in tougher discussions then previous recent years. No matter how tough those discussions are, I will strive to protect the spending priorities of everyday Illinois families.”
Senator Turner will also serve on the Assignments, Agriculture, Appropriations-Education, Early Childhood Education, Higher Education, and Revenue committees. She also serves as the co-chair of the Senate State Government Committee, making her one of only two Senate Republicans to serve as a co-chair since the early 2000s.
